Forth Ports have submitted a bid to establish a Forth Green Freeport, with Burntisland dock area being earmarked as a customs site.

As we understand it this would involve a high security duty-free zone where value is added to imported goods before exporting them again. One of the conditions of approval for a freeport is that there are benefits for the local community. What these might entail we have no idea because we, the Burntisland community, have been kept entirely in the dark.

Given that Fife Council and the Scottish Government are partners in the Freeport venture, can we hope for more transparency and public accountability?
